We will have white, yellow, orange, brown, and green courses. Starts are from 9:45 am to 1:00 pm. Beginner instruction begins at 10:00 am. Runners must be off all courses by 3 pm.
To make sure we have enough maps and save time on the day, please pre-register. Fees are $7 for members, $10 for non-members. E-punch rental is $3 for the day.
As usual, parking will be tight. Overflow parking is about 800 meters down the street at Sope Creek Elementary. Please, no buses in the Sope Creek parking lot as there is not enough room to turn around. Please see the parking map below.

Sope Creek was originally called Soap Creek after a Cherokee named “Old Soap”. He and his family were forced to move to Cherokee County, where they lived until they were relocated on the Trail of Tears. The spelling of Sope Creek was changed sometime in the 19th century.
The ruins at Sope Creek are of the Marietta Paper Mill Ruins. The Mill, built in 1859, was a primary source of paper for the South and rumored to be the place where Confederate Money was printed (this is unsubstantiated). Garrard‘s Soldiers burnt the mill down on July 5, 1864.
Near the south end of Sope Creek park there is a graveyard from the late 1800s, the Scribner family. According to the 1935 history book, the Scribner house was located near the graveyard.
GAOC offers beginner instruction at 10am at all local meets. Runners may start their course any time between 11am and 1pm with a 3-hour time limit for all courses. All runners must be off the courses by 3pm.
From Atlanta, I-75 N to I-285 East. Take exit #24 and go North on Riverside Dr. to Johnson Ferry Rd. Turn NW (left), cross the river and turn west (left) at second traffic light, Paper Mill Rd. Cross the creek and go 0.5 miles, turn south (left) into parking lot.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to participate in any GAOC event, ALL youths under the age of 18 MUST present a
Waiver of Responsibility that has been signed by their own Parent
or Legal Guardian. It is NOT sufficient that the Waiver of Responsibility be signed by any other adult such as a scout leader, coach,
teacher or chaperone. Please access the web site noted below, print a waiver for each youth, and have their Parent or Guardian sign
for them.
