On February 10, GAOC will be holding an open public meet which will be held at the Bert Adams Scout Reservation. GAOC access to the reservation is at the courtesy of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. This 1,300 acre property includes both wooded and open terrain, including buildings. (NOTE 2 special announcements at the end of this information.)

E-punch will be used on all courses, and all courses will include pre-printed maps. Given the new IOF map guidelines, we have elected to eliminate rootstock designations from the map. Many thanks to Rick Shane and Kevin Haywood for recent improvements of the map.

A Silver Course has been included for runners of advancing years.

Courses will include: (All courses will be pre-printed on maps.)

Since the meet will be held at a BSA facility, we encourage scout packs, troops, or crews to attend. Although this is strictly not a BSA event, GAOC members, who are also scout leaders, will be available to sign advancement and merit badge accomplishments. Beginner (White) and novice (Yellow) courses will be available and are greater than 1-mile, as per first class and merit badge requirements.

Basic instruction will be available for all participants (scouts and other participants).

The meet will begin at approximately 11:00 am with instruction beginning at approximately 10:00 am. Please do not arrive before this time and expect to begin; we will allow earlier starts to begin IF we are ready to go. Last starting times will be at 1:00 pm. All participants are expected back within 3 hours of their start time or 3:00 pm, whichever comes first.

Standard meet fees apply as posted on the GAOC web site. Members are $7, Associate and non-members are $10. Electronic punch (e-punch) will be used. E-punch rental is $3. These fees are per start, so small groups going together with one map will only pay one fee. (All participants, however, must have a waiver, see below.) No parking fee is required.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to participate in any GAOC event, ALL youths under the age of 18 MUST present a Waiver of Responsibility that has been signed by their own Parent or Legal Guardian. It is NOT sufficient that the Waiver of Responsibility be signed by any other adult such as a scout leader, coach, teacher or chaperone. Please access the web site noted below and complete the online waiver form for ALL participants. If electronic completion is not possible for youth, please contact J. Lybarger at 404-245-7398 in advance of the meet by February 9th.

Complete the online waiver form here by joining GAOC as an Associate Member for free. Instructors or coaches may complete the form, then download and print the completed form to be physically signed by a parent or guardian.

PLEASE NOTE: Special considerations for those attending the meet are that BSA youth protection guidelines will be observed for restroom facilities. Not only are restrooms segregated by sex, but also by age (17 and younger vs. 18 and older). The four facilities are youth boys, adult men, youth girls and adult women. Female restrooms are in the same building, but the girls facilities will be unlocked and women will have a locking code for entry into adult areas. The same arrangement is observed for men/boys building. Adults are to use only the locked adult areas. Locations of the facilities and lock combinations for accessing adult areas will be available at the meet registration. Leaders of non-scouting youth groups are expected to inform your members to observe these requirements. We are guests at this camp, so please be courteous about following these rules and keeping the facilities clean.
