From Atlanta, west on I-20 to exit 44. South on Thornton Rd. Right on Blairs Bridge Rd. Left on Mt Vernon. Follow signs to Park. To reach the GAOC Registration Tent: Drive across the causeway that separates the two halves of the Lake, take your first Left (across from the “Cedar Terrace Rd” sign) and look for our white tent by the lakeshore near the boat launch ramp and store/canoe-rentals/bait shop. Take care of your $5 self-serve parking fee and display the tag on your rearview mirror (or display a valid annual GA State Parks Parking Pass).

This will be a SCORE-O event with the control bags hung at points on or near the perimeter of the lake at Sweetwater Creek State Park (Sparks Reservoir). This annual meet is intended primarily for “crews” of one or more individuals who paddle their canoe or kayak to various points around the lakeshore and get out of the boat from time to time as necessary to locate the controls. This year we will also officially allow non-paddling “crews” or individuals to participate without a boat by running or walking around the shoreline (or perhaps wade or swim a bit! for a higher score). Points earned in the Score-O will range from only 10 for easily accessed controls near the START to as many as 50 for those requiring (for example) a distant canoe landing coupled with a 200-meter hike into the woods. SPECIAL BONUSES can be earned for solving optional course-related Puzzles described on the Control Description Sheet. Time Limit: Will be 2 hours from START to FINISH, with a penalty of 5 points assessed for each minute the crew or individual is late turning in their punch card. Boating Advice (if you intend to paddle): Bring your own canoe or kayak (or other personal watercraft) of your choice, including paddles and lifejackets. The State Park has about 12 canoes available for rental at the store/ bait shop near our GAOC Registration/Start area. Rentals are available beginning at 7:00 AM strictly on a walk-up first-come-first-serve basis, with no advance reservations permitted. The canoe rental rates including paddles and lifejackets (max of 2 adults + one child per canoe) are: $10 for up to 2 hours, $15 for up to 4 hours, and $25 for up to 8 hours. Questions?
