This year's Ghoullies Night-O will be at Dauset Trails on Saturday, October 30th. We will be operating out of Pavilion #2, which can be reached by following the road into the park at the bike trail parking lot.
There is only one course, a Score-O with 25 controls; each control is worth 4 points. Dauset Trails has so many trails that there are plenty of controls suitable for intermediate-level and advanced level orienteers. The shortest course length to get all the controls is about 5.5 km.
Time limit will be 3 hours or 9:00 pm, whichever comes sooner. Overtime penalty is 1 point/minute.
Start times will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, every 2 minutes. As last year, the tie breaker goes to the person with the later start time. To encourage orienteers to select a start time such that they at least get to do some night orienteering, the tiebreaker will go to the orienteer with the LATEST start time. The latest starter who gets the most points wins. Elapsed time is irrelevant for scoring other than for determining overtime penalties. Orienteers will not be allowed to start early, and if you show up late your official start time will not be changed. So, the start time you select will serve as the basis for determining your tiebreaker position....select it wisely.
Meals will be provided at no extra charge to everyone who pre-registers and buys a map by Thursday, October 28th at 6:00 am. If you want a meal, please select your options when you pre-register. The menu includes beef or chicken chili, vegetable soup, grilled cheese sandwich, bed of rice, crackers, cornbread, cupcake, cookie, soda, powerade, and water. Meals will be served from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. If you are running a course as a group, and all members of the group want a meal, then the group needs to purchase a map for each and every member of the group when registering. While meal registration ends at 6:00 am on Thursday, course registration will continue until 5:00 am on Saturday.
Event volunteers are always needed and appreciated. Each volunteer is awarded a coupon that may be used for free (and early) event registration or items from our merchandise page.
Runners must select their start time when pre-registering, and will be started promptly at their selected start time. Orienteers will not be allowed to start early, and if you show up late your official start time will not be changed. First start is at 4:00 pm, last start is at 8:00 pm, with a 3-hour time limit for all courses. All runners must be off all courses by 9:00 pm. Meals will be served from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
I-75 to exit 198, High Falls Road. Turn east and go 4.6 miles, then turn right onto Mt Vernon Church Road. Go 3.2 miles on Mt Vernon Church Road to the bike trail parking lot on the left. Dauset Trail's address is 360 Mt Vernon Church Rd, Jackson, GA 30233.
