On March 29, GAOC will be holding an open public meet which will be held at the Bert Adams Scout Reservation. John Chambers has made a new map of the park with LIDAR contours.

GAOC access to the reservation is at the courtesy of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. This 1,300 acre property includes both wooded and open terrain, including buildings. (NOTE 2 special announcements at the end of this information.)

Since the meet will be held at a BSA facility, we encourage scout packs, troops, or crews to attend. Although this is strictly not a BSA event, GAOC members, who are also scout leaders, will be available to sign advancement and merit badge accomplishments, as time allows. Beginner (White) and novice (Yellow) courses will be available and are greater than 1 mile, as per first class and merit badge requirements. Scouts should have adequate clothing for the weather conditions, a water bottle, and a compass per buddy group.

Registrants will be assigned start times by the online registration process. All participants must be back within 3 hours of their start time or 2:00 pm, whichever comes first.

Follow the main access road into the camp and drive directly (no turns) back to the Arnold Pavilion and parking area. No parking fee is required. If you travel to BASR by driving through Porterdale, please note speed limits.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to participate in any GAOC event, ALL participants MUST complete a Waiver of Responsibility. For youth under the age of 18, the Waiver of Responsibility MUST be signed by their own Parent or Legal Guardian. It is NOT sufficient that the Waiver of Responsibility be signed by any other adult such as a scout leader, coach, teacher or chaperone. BE SURE TO ACCESS THE MEMBERSHIP FORM AND HAVE ALL PARTICIPANTS COMPLETE, OR HAVE COMPLETED BY THEIR OWN PARENT OR GUARDIAN, THE WAIVER OF RESPONSIBILITY PRIOR TO COMING TO THE MEET. Complete the waiver form here by joining GAOC as an Associate Member for free by choosing the "Associate (Waiver only)" option at the bottom of the form. Contact Jeffrey Lybarger at 404-245-7398 if you have questions.

PLEASE NOTE: Special considerations for those attending the meet are that BSA youth protection guidelines will be observed for restroom facilities. Not only are restrooms segregated by sex, but also by age (17 and younger vs 18 and older). The four facilities are youth boys, adult men, youth girls and adult women. Leaders of non-scouting youth groups are expected to inform your members to observe these age related requirements. We are guests at this camp, so please be courteous about following these rules and keeping the facilities clean.

Notes

  1. Water will NOT be provided on any course. A camelbak water carrying device is highly recommended. Participants must bring their own compasses, whistle, and water. Additionally, please be respectful of meet and scoring officials by maintaining appropriate social distancing. DO NOT congregate around the scoring tent after you have downloaded.
  2. Pre-paid pre-registration is required. (Registration will open for our volunteer meet directors at 7:00pm on Monday, January 26th, and will open for other volunteer coupon holders at 8:00pm. Registration will open to everyone at 9:00pm.) No paper forms or payments will be accepted on-site.
