Join GAOC on Saturday, February 14th at Hard Labor Creek State Park for classic orienteering courses on the Pflueger Trails map. Two advanced training courses, Corridor and Contour, will be available. The Corridor course, with only a very narrow corridor mapped, lets you practice your precision compass and map reading skills. (You must stay within the mapped corridor as you navigate.) The Contour course, with only contour features mapped, lets you practice your map reading skills. (The Contour course is the same course as the Orange course, but is on a different map.) You must pre-register for a training course; you may choose a training course as your second course if you also want to run a regular course.

The northern center of the Pflueger Trails map contains a large area of private property marked as out of bounds. Please be very careful with your navigation and be sure to stay off the private property.

Parking and finish will be at the mountain bike trailhead off of Knox Chapel Road, about 1.2 miles west of the park office. The parking area at the mountain bike trailhead is very small; overflow parking for cars will be available directly across Knox Chapel Road from the trailhead entrance. Be very careful crossing the road as Knox Chapel Road is fairly busy, and through traffic is fast. Please do not park along Knox Chapel Road. Park only in the bike trailhead parking area or the overflow parking area (marked with signs). There is no room for a bus to turn around at the bike trailhead or the overflow parking. If you bring a bus, plan to drop off your passengers on Knox Chapel Road near the bike trailhead and park at the park office (about 1.2 miles away).

Please pay the park's $10 parking fee regardless of which parking area you use.

Notes

  1. Water will NOT be provided on any course. A camelbak water carrying device is highly recommended. Small bottles of water will be provided at the finish. Participants must bring their own compass and whistle. Additionally, please be respectful of meet and scoring officials by maintaining appropriate social distancing. DO NOT congregate around the scoring tent after you have downloaded.
  2. Pre-paid pre-registration is required. (Registration will open for our volunteer meet directors at 7:00pm on Monday, February 9th, and will open for other volunteer coupon holders at 8:00pm. Registration will open to everyone at 9:00pm.) No paper forms or payments will be accepted on-site.
  3. Participants will be started promptly at the start time they select when pre-registering. To facilitate social distancing, please come to the start no earlier than 3 minutes before your start time, but be sure to be at the start on time.
  4. Runners will have the option to run one or two courses using the same e-stick. If you want to run two courses, you must pre-register for both courses. On the pre-registration form, you will select your start time for your first course. At the event, when you are ready to start you second course, come back to the start to be assigned a start time.
